Happy New Year: Highlight of books read in 2016 and goal for 2017

Happy New Year everyone! I hope this year brings us nothing but joy and happiness. May we accomplish all our goals this year including those we failed to accomplish in 2016. Speaking of goals, I set a goal of 60 books in 2016 inspired by the 59 books I read in 2015 but I came very short of this goal. Life happened and I got busy with different things so I was only able to read 22 books. Most of the 22 books I read were African fictions. 2016 was my first time really getting into and reading a lot of African fictions. My favorite genre was crime and mystery. I discovered a lot of great authors and great books.

2016 Reading Challenge!

Just like 2015, I challenge myself to read 60 books this year. Although, this maybe a little bit more challenging considering I no longer have books readily available at my fingertips and also, I have an ongoing Bible In One Year challenge that is on top of my priority list. But, I will still try my best and read as much as I can. So far, I’ve finished just one book, Sula by Toni Morrison and currently reading Arrows Of Rain by Okey Ndibe. Compared to last year, I’m behind but I trust myself to catch up. I will post my review of Sula later.

2015 Reading Challenge

Last year, I set a 60 book goal via Goodreads and achieved 98% of the goal. I read 59 books! I could have easily read more but I slacked off in December. Achieving this goal wouldn’t have been possible without Amazon Kindle Unlimited. The membership gave me access to variety of books for $9.99 a month. And it also forced me to read more books a month to get my money’s worth. Although, I had to cancel the membership this year because it didn’t satisfy my cravings for books by black authors. But I enjoyed every book I read and fell in love with most of the authors.
